This project is an effort, in a very small compass to look at the main trends of "CHURCHES" from the architectural point of view.
As I said before it was impossible to me to cover this subject perfectly due to the short of the time. So I hope that you will judge me with indulgence.
The project is also an attempt to show how the actual structure and forms of architecture were always the product of time and space. Man's thoughts and actions-his religion, politics, art technology and aspirations, as well as landscape, geology and climate are the things from which architecture is born.
In the present work I started first with a review of the several periods from which that man begun to built temples or churches to adore "God". Through these periods, the several types of the religious - buildings were explained, taking the form of a general presentation. Then more specifically I continued with the history of Cyprus through the churches and the types of churches which were imposed. Afterwards occupied churches from Turks were described as they are now and they were before.
Also several churches of the free Cyprus are described too, giving special attention to the materials techniques and architecture which were used. The photographs that are supplemented in this part of the project speak by themselves.
As it was mentioned before it is of great importance and of great interest the study of the "CHURCHES". Since generally the study of old monuments, gives the opportunity of development of pure architecture based on the tradition. Also it can be said that the "CHURCHES" cannot be regarded only as structures of great artistic value. They are something more than that because they represent the life and the architecture of all History.
