Coastal pollution has become a widespread phenomenon, which is unfortunately deriving from many sources, mainly though, from human activities.
The Mediterranean Sea, as a rapid developed region, is facing a number of problems. However the states of the Mediterranean have adopted the Mediterranean Action Plan through which all coastal areas are investigated and monitored and eventually programmes and practical measures are found.
Industrial activities in Cyprus are restricted to energy production, cement production, oil refining and wine production. Tourist development and infrastructure, intensive habitation of coastal area, along with other uses such as transport, agriculture put however great pressure to the coastal environment. Yet wastes, water quality and protection of habitats are continuously monitored by the national authorities.
This report is referred to the main sources of coastal pollution and the methods, measures and procedures followed in order to control, eliminate or prevent any further form of coastal pollution.
