This project was created as an effort on developing a Web Site that would provide all kinds of information regarding Ancient Cyprus, thus exhibiting the rich background and culture of the island through the ancient times.
The effort applied to the project, though important, is not enough to encapture a complete aspect of a professional and complete Web representation of Ancient Cyprus mostly due to the existing system constraints (4 months for the complete development, documentation, implementation and testing of the system). In addition to that come the difficulties I faced during the collection of adequate and comprehensive information throughout the investigation phase. As a concluding observation, it should be noted that I was completely inexperienced in the field of multimedia development.
Having that in mind, the major concern was to develop a package that would be comprehensive enough, so that it would cover all the major aspects of Ancient Cyprus. Additionally to provide substantial help to the projection of the island's culture and history.
Obstacles during the project development were encountered during the Investigation Phase, where the research part was to be carried out involving all sorts of things necessary for the project development. Things like choosing the right development tool(Macromedia Flash Mx, Mx 2004) and information gathering concerning Ancient Cyprus. Finding the right books that would give me the proper information for a more thorough and whole perspective of Ancient Cyprus was difficult. First I had to go to the Department of Antiquities select the books then go to the public library to borrow them and that didn't happen because the books I selected were not for borrowing, and lastly I ended up borrowing them from the University of Cyprus library and still not all of them.
In conclusion, despite the barriers encountered during the way, the development of this project was indeed a challenge for me. Despite the fact that there was tremendous work to be done by me, the educational and not only knowledge was priceless. Through this researching and developing experience, I have learned things about Cyprus that I never imagined and finally tamed the multimedia authoring tool. The most important is that this was a great opportunity to project Cyprus throughout the world and also provide a first page concerning Ancient Cyprus because an official page doesn't exist.
I would like to dedicate this project to Cyprus and its people with the wish that it will help us all to understand who we really are and to grasp the importance of our true identity. Finally I would like to hope that we would be able one day see Salamis and Soloi without the barriers and control of the Turkish yoke.
