Σύνοψη

The objective of this project is to give an idea of the existing transportation problems faced in the Nicosia area and with the help and the quidance of the government sector and the private sector, be able to achieve this goal, give possible suggestions that might contribute to overcome traffic flow problems and establish an efficient transportation system in Nicosia.
A summary of the existing transportation problem as shown below:
1. The concidence of government business and school starting times with in a short period in the morning peak hours places a heavy burden on the road net work.
2. Bus system services have a lot of problems in their operation so the public bus service is too slow.
3. Improper and illegal parking at point that might cause congestion of traffic flow and sometimes serious accidents. The absence of an appropriate parking policy as well as the lack of well-situated and designed parking places also contribute to an inefficient flow of traffic.
4. The lack of proper and continuous pedestrian's roads pavements and bicycle roads which connects the several built-up areas with the main business centers, the education centres e.t.c However problematic existing traffic flow system as well as the pedestrians heedless and vehicle's high speed and inattentiveness are the main reasons for the increasing rate of pedestrian's accidents.
5. Problems may arise when the number of vehicles in a rood exceed its capacity in such a way that causes time loss to vehicle owners as well as an increase in fuel consumption and additional air pollution.
6. Problems arising from traffic signal operation either due to improper timing and/or location
7. Apart from the transportation problems and as a result of the inefficient flow of traffic is the pollution of the environment, as improper automobile combustion engine due to the inefficient flow of traffic discharges into the air pollutant substances. This is most severe in the town center which causes a chain of adverse effects not only to the environment but also to the health of human being.
The above problems give a general idea of the transportation problems in Nicosia and contribute to the inefficient flow of traffic, which will all be discussed in more detail in the project and with the aid of consultants from both private and government sectors in the attempt to form suggestions that might contribute to an efficient flow of traffic in Nicosia.
