Η σχέση της Judy Shirley με την Κερύνεια.

Πρόκειται για την Judy Shirley, που μαζί με τον σύζυγό της Roy Findlay, λειτουργούσαν το Harbour Club, κατά την περίοδο των διακοινοτικών ταραχών του 1963-64.

The Harbour Club at Kyrenia was a British stronghold throughout the Cyprus emergency. Anti-terrorist operations were plotted over glasses of beer and brandy-sours by countless British officers; The final details of the Suez paratroop drop were worked out with salt cellars and mustard pots in its restaurant.
And yet, surprisingly, it was never bombed by E.O.K.A. The club’s owner, Major Roy Findlay, pictured here with his wife Judy, has a possible explanation -the fact that he once saved the life of General Grivas, the former E.O.K.A. commander.
“It happened in Greece during the revolution”, he said. “My company of gunners was ordered to attack Communist forces which had surrounded a house. It was quite a fight. We managed to get the occupants out. One of them was Grivas”.
Mrs. Findlay, formerly the singer Judy Shirley, who compered ‘Monday Night at Eight’, said: “We were always prepared for a bomb. But it never came. We are sure that Grivas spared us for this reason”.
The Findlays are staying in Cyprus , confident that the island can survive the present economic misery.

Αρχές δεκαετίας του ‘60... και το λιμάνι της Κερύνειας αλλάζει με γρήγορους ρυθμούς. Διακρίνονται άνω των 25 ταχύπλοων, ιστιοφόρων κλπ. Το ΓΛΑΥΜΑΡΙΟ ρεμεντζαρισμένο στην αποβάθρα του τελωνείου. Περίπου στο μέσο του λιμανιού το μεγάλο σκάφος είναι το ΜΕΡΜΙΡ. Πιο πίσω ο ΕΣΠΕΡΟΣ του Σάββα Καπετανόπουλου και δεξιότερα η εμβληματική μινιατούρα καραβόσκαρου, ΦΙΓΚΑΡΟ.
